Character Interview
Interview with Nora Murphy, the heroine from A Baby Between Them, Book 3 of the Irish Brides series
1. Nora, tell me the most interesting thing about you.
I guess it would be that I, along with my two sister, traveled thousands of miles from Ireland to America and we weren’t certain if we’d even have a place to live when we arrived.
2. What do you do for fun?
I enjoy baking. And of course, since baby Grace came into my life so unexpectedly, I love to spend time with her
3. What do you put off doing because you dread it?
Laundry is one chore I absolutely detest. It is such hot, exhausting work.
4. What are you afraid of most in life?
Being no longer needed. When my mother died, I took her place in managing the household and watching out for my younger sisters. When Da died, I felt even more responsibility for my sisters. But both of them are married now and somehow the roles have been reversed and they’re wanting to take care of me! If I didn’t have baby Grace to look out for, I’d be truly lost.
5. What do you want out of life?
More than anything I’d like to be a husband and father. But, because of the way I’ve failed people in the past, I can’t trust myself to go for the prize in this area.
6. What is the most important thing to you?
Family
7. Do you have a pet? If so, what is it and why that pet?
No pets. Not that I’m opposed to pets, but they require a lot of love and attention and my life is just too busy right now to include one. But I would love to have a puppy some day. I think it’s because they offer love so unconditionally.
8. Can you tell us a little interesting tidbit about the time period you live in?
Well, I don’t know how interesting this is, but one of the big things that is happening right now, and one reason my sister’s and I left Ireland is the terrible potato famine. It has caused devastating losses to many families in my village - illnesses, death, starvation. And many of the survivors have had to move elsewhere to find a way to sustain themselves and their families.
